If anyone ever gets the chance, check out The Learning Channel (TLC) program called "Rides". This week's program chronicled the development of Ford's Shelby GTR. Much of the filming of the show took place in Ford's California design studio. The one hour program broadly covered the development of the concept vehicle from design inception to its show readiness state. A good part of show was spent on the development of the full size clay model. Lots of praise was given to the talented team of clay modelers who were able to effectively interpret and transform the designer's 2D renderings into the finshed 3D clay model. Ultimately, fiberglass molds were made from this model.
While this is late notice, TLC often repeats the "Rides" episodes - look out for this one!
