Hi, It seems to be very nice, creating volumes at the very beginning of a concept is a great job for sure. Anyway it is where I would be happy ( and good ! ). BUT, again, how is it possible to get the job considering they are looking for experimented sculptors ( which is normal ) and that it’s so difficult to even get an apprenticeship ( to become experimented ) ? Sometimes I really feel that the field of clay sculpting is killing itself closing doors to people with great potential. I can’t afford any design school, so I’m building a strong portfolio to display my knowledge. It will be interesting to see if the “big names” are interested in skills more than the name of the school you are from. I certainly don’t want to talk like I think I’m a god, but I’ve seen enough models from design schools students to be convinced that you don’t learn the skill there. Recently I met a fantastic sculptor in the figurative field, he’s very successful and didn’t go to any art school. He learned by doing, like all great masters. At the moment other fields are interested in my skills. My way of thinking is that I believe there is always a solution, so I’m not worry about having or not the possibility to get this kind of job, but for sure it would be a shame if I had to a different field because people in clay modelling are mainly interested in the school you are from or where you are from instead of your real value. Steve and Jeff ( and any other pros ), It would be nice to know the reality of it from you insiders Thx Seb

It's just an illusion Seb, I can tell you that at our studio - skill is more important then what school you went to. When we have time, we would rather hire someone with no experience, but has a great eye & great hands then hire someone that has bad habits or is not willing to learn more. But it is always nice to be able to get ahold of an experienced modeler that can start right away with no training needed & is willing to learn.

Hummm ...... I guess that the vision of people outside the field is biased. Lots of medias around it, so many people who would like to be involved. There are very few places to take, but also very few really talented people. So it makes the situation look less cruel than it seems at first sight......for talented people ! Seb
