The title was to catch the eye , which i hope it has , i have been in volke germany for 4 and a half years and not looked for a jog in that time , however now i am looking ,i find out that the modelling world seems to enjoy putting poeple down ,so my tip for a bad modeller is not in what they can do on the clay but the way they conduct them selfs against others ,what is not taken in to account is that they are playing with the livelyhoods of those poeple they are slagging off. question,if never done wrong what is done answer , nothing WHY

Hello Bill, I am not so sure that you are being slagged off because things have tightened up a lot in the last few months, it may be that you are not approaching the companies in the right way. In the old days it was usual to approach someone you knew who was already working in the studio you wanted to go to and get him to put a word in for you, these days modelling managers have become more corporate minded and now prefer to receive a few resume's to study before they make their decision on who they are going to employ. There are a lot of good modellers looking for work at the moment and very few positions so they can afford to be more choosey. I don't think you are being singled out because I have never heard of any detrimental remarks about you from any quarter. I would suggest that you use agents only to approach companies for contract work but there are full time positions available in the States if you check out www.cardesignnews.com/employment/index.html it's the jobs section. I hope you will soon find yourself a new position and I wish you the best of luck. Jeff.

Bill,
I can only agree with you. It seems that as time goes by the importance of being an all round good guy and never speaking your mind or being honest, not least to yourself, has become the most important part of a CV.
The characters who were, maybe at times, coming across offensive or obtuse probably never ment to be, or had a different sence of humour, but they could model extremely well. These guys now struggle at times because other less capable but more popular will take the positions first. This will also apply if using an agency, because I do not know of many studio managers who select people based purely on their personal knowledge.
In saying all this my advise would be to become a plumber or dry stone waller as these professions are desperate for skilled people who enjoy the work for the works sake and would probably overlook an eccentric personality in favour of skill.
Bill I still think your one of the best blokes I have met on the circuit in my last 15 years. all the best and dont stay in the states for to long.

hi d, where are you from ?
indeed the world has changed, skilled and (even more) very skilled people struggle.
For sure you have to understand the rules of the communication with the people in the field you want to be a part of.
Marketing, thats it.
The way you sell a product our your skill is more important than the product or skill itself.
I'm specialized in high luxury paint finishing on all sort of objects, and I see a lot of guys who produce very bad quality being far more successful than I do.
But when it comes to people who want the best that money can buy, they call me.
It's just a REALLY hard and long way. 1 person on 1 000 000.
Bill I think that if the situation becomes too much difficult, it's a wise choice to take a "normal" job for some time, it allows you to take oxygen to come back a little later to the market with a total determination.
Taking an agent like Jeff was saying can help too.
Keep motivated guys !
See ya
Seb
