I have a contract as a modeller at one of the big 3. I was told by my contract house that my contract will be ending soon. I was never given a time line as far as the length of my contract. I am new to the field and need advice. There are contractors that have been at (this big 3)company for years. Does the (big 3) company just nenew the contract if I have done a good job? Or do I have to go to another contract company now for when the time my contract ends? (and hope the big 3 company wants to keep me) I am not really happy with my current contract company so I would like to swtich, but I do not want to be out of a job.

Hi Cidge If your agent has told you that your contract is ending then that will probably be the decision of the studio where you are currently working. You are free to work through any agent you want to but design studios use different contract agents so the decision as to which agent you work for in a particular location will usually be made by the studio concerned. If you will be looking for another position then the best thing you can do is to approach as many agents as possible and get your CV into as many studios as you can for consideration. Be flexible and prepared to re-locate, there is not a great deal of work out there. The length of contracts vary as does the notice period. If you clarify these details with the agent before you start in a new place then there shouldn't be any misunderstandings later on. Good luck!
